تاریخهای مهم در زمینه تغییرات آب و هوایی

April 9, 2012
Confronting Climate Change: A Focus on Local Government Impacts, Actions and Resources (California Endowment, 1000 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, California)

This one-day event will provide a summary on the most recent scientific understanding of climate change impacts to cities and counties throughout California and outline the tools and resources for local governments to address climate change impacts. Discussions will focus on coordinated regional efforts, funding opportunities and strategies to reduce risk and impacts that will create jobs and help local economies. The event also will offer opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking between local governments in attendance.
More information will be available as date of event nears.

March - April 2012
Climate change & Flood Frequency Analysis (Multiple Locations Location and Date TBD)

Public scoping meetings on recommendations for supplementing the federal "Guidelines for Determining Flood Flow Frequency Analysis" (Bulletin 17-B) to incorporate climate change.
Existing federal guidelines for flood frequency analysis that are widely used by local and state agencies do not consider climate change. Knowing that increases in extreme events are expected, California needs to step up and begin a process to supplement the federal standards.

February 29, 2012
Climate Change and Coastal Inundation (Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, California)

By 2100, increases in global mean sea level will result in long-term inundation of low-lying coastal areas throughout the state. Within the next few decades, however, coastal flood damages will be driven by event-based inundation from storm surges, inland riverine flooding, and shallow flooding from high tides combined with storm conditions. This lecture for the general public by speakers from DWR and the University of California will discuss the climatic influence on flooding mechanisms, expected impacts, and vulnerability of infrastructure such as stormwater systems. Also covered will be flood frequency analysis in a changing climate. For more information, click here.

February 14, 2012
Climate Change, Extreme Weather, and Central Valley Floods (DWR, 3500 Industrial Blvd, West Sacramento, California)

This one-day public workshop will present information on climate change and Central Valley floods with a focus on extreme precipitation and atmospheric rivers, the Draft Central Valley Flood Protection Plan, hazard warning capabilities, the Calwater research project, and potential adaptation opportunities.
(Contact: Jeanine Jones; 916- 653-8126; jeanine@water.ca.gov) ~ Agenda will be posted the week of January 16th.

January 31, 2012
Climate Change, Extreme Weather, and Southern California Floods (Los Angeles County Department of Public Works HQ, 900 S. Fremont Ave., Alhambra, California)

Extreme precipitation events present unique flooding risks to Southern California with respect to alluvial fan flooding and debris flows. This workshop will cover recognition of flood hazards from high-intensity precipitation events, predictive ability for extreme storms, and emerging understanding of risk factors, including wildfires. The agenda will include updates related to the recommendations of the 2010 Alluvial Fan Task Force Findings and Recommendations Report and the status of development of the state plan of flood protection.
(Contact: Jeanine Jones; jeanine@water.ca.gov; 916-653-8126)- News release and agenda posted here.
Registration for this event is not required.

January 25, 2012
Atmospheric Rivers, Floods, and Climate Change (Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, California)

Recent scientific discoveries are helping us understand atmospheric rivers – the concentrated streams of moisture that originate over the Pacific Ocean and cause California's major winter floods when they reach landfall here. This lecture for the general public by speakers from DWR and the National Weather Service will describe just how extreme these extreme precipitation and flooding events can be, put them in the context of our historical flooding, and discuss what is known about the effects of climate change on these extreme events. Also covered will be "ARkstorm", the simulated flooding event used to gauge California’s emergency preparedness for a flood of epic proportions. For more information, click here.

WIT Short Course on Water Policy and Management 2011

Water Policy and Management Issues for Sustainable Irrigation

11- 13 May 2011, Ashurst Lodge, Ashurst, Southampton, UK

Presented by: Prof Henning Bjornlund, University of South Australia and Ms Vibeke Bjornlund, University of Lethbridge

Organised by: Wessex Institute of Technology, UK

 Course Description

Water is set to be the most critical resource defining our way of life and setting limits for growth in many parts of the world. Many water resources are already fully or over committed and riverine ecosystems are feeling the impact and in places threatening the economic use of water. Still demand for water is growing with continued population and economic growth and changing lifestyles while future supply is uncertain due to a changing climate. If current resources are fully committed then new demand for both consumptive and environmental uses can only be satisfied by reallocating water from existing users. In many of the most water scarce regions irrigation currently account for around 80% of water use, hence the most likely source of water for reallocation will the irrigation. However, such reallocation can have significant socioeconomic impact within regions depending on irrigation. The magnitude of that impact will depend on the way this reallocation is implemented, the way the irrigation sector responds to reduced water availability and which management mechanisms governments put in place to assist farmers managing this transition.

This short course focuses on the water management and policy issues which facilitate these processes while minimizing the socioeconomic impacts. Emphasis will be placed on the history which has created this overuse of water and the policies which have driven this process. We will explore what can be learned from early irrigation societies as well as the policies now being implemented in various parts of the world to deal with emerging water crises.

The course is designed to be of use to anyone interested in water resources policy and management and how best to balance environmental, social, and economic needs when addressing water allocation issues. This would include both scholars and students working in these areas as well as professionals working for government departments, consultants or organizations with a need to understand water allocation issues.

کنفرانس مدیریت آب - سپتامبر 2009

2009 Water Management Conference

Deniliquin Shire Council
9 to 11 September 2009

The Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW (LGSA) Water Management Conference is an annual event providing Local Government with a broad range of information on water management and issues associated with water supply and sewerage services provided by local water utilities. The conference presents an opportunity for councillors, Local Government professionals, government representatives and the broader industry to tackle key water management issues and discuss emerging issues in the water portfolio from a Local Government perspective.

The Water Management Conference in Deniliquin will provide a focus on sustainably managing urban water and water for irrigation and the impacts of water policy on regional/rural economies. Deniliquin is the support centre for and headquarter of the largest private irrigation area in Australia, Murray Irrigation Ltd, and the conference site visits will showcase important irrigation infrastructure.

Deniliquin will also be a great place to discuss outcomes of the Australian Government's approach to the integrated management of the Murray-Darling Basin, including addressing the issue of over-allocation of water and the impacts of water buybacks for the environment on local economies and communities. Deniliquin is located in one of the areas worst affected by the recent drought. Drought management and associated issues such as salinity or groundwater extraction will also be topics for the conference.

Attendance at the conference provides many invaluable opportunities including (but certainly not limited to) the following;

  • Great learning and professional development
  • Discussion and revelation of cutting edge industry trends
  • Networking and team building
  • View and experience the latest products and services

Call for Papers

Deadline: 31 March 2009

Councils and other stakeholders are invited to forward papers and/or suggestions for consideration in the development of the conference program.

The Water Management Conference is an annual event providing Local Government with a broad range of information on water management and issues associated with water supply and sewerage services provided by local water utilities. The conference presents an opportunity for councillors, Local Government professionals, government representatives and the broader industry to tackle key water management issues and discuss emerging issues in the water portfolio from a Local Government perspective.

One focus of the conference will be on balancing urban water, water for irrigation and environmental water, the impacts of water policy on regional/rural economies, and the transition of water dependent industries in times of reduced water availability. Deniliquin is the support centre for and headquarter of the largest private irrigation area in Australia, Murray Irrigation Ltd and is located in one of the areas worst affected by the recent drought. It will also be an appropriate place to discuss outcomes of the Australian Government's approach to the integrated management of the Murray-Darling Basin, including addressing the issue of over-allocation of water and the impacts of water buybacks for the environment on local economies and communities.

The conference will also continue to discuss the ongoing review of regulatory and institutional arrangement for local water utilities in regional NSW.

Councils and interested stakeholders are encouraged to forward papers and/or suggestions relevant to the themes of the conference for consideration in the development of the program. Please note that the LGSA do not accept presentations which are solely commercial in nature.
